Jackknife Semi Ties Up Traffic On I-75

MONROE (WWJ) - Fog may have been the culprit behind an accident along I-75 Tuesday that left a truck driver seriously injured.

Police said a semi was heading southbound on I-75 at Front Street when it lost part of its load, and dropped a large piece of steel onto the roadway. Another truck then hit that steel object, struck another vehicle, and jackknifed.

The driver of the semi was taken to a Toledo hospital where he was listed in serious condition later in the day. The driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The truck that had lost its load was located nearby. That driver was cited for numerous violations.

A section of southbound I-75 in Monroe County was closed all afternoon at Dixie Highway, mile marker 15, but have since reopened. The exit 14 ramp, Elm Ave., remained closed for cleanup later in the day.
