PEACOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - West Michigan authorities say speed may be a factor in the death of a 65-year-old Lake County man whose snowmobile struck a tree.

The Lake County sheriff’s department says the crash happened about 9:10 Monday in Peacock Township, about 25 miles east of Ludington.

The Ludington Daily News says the department identifies the victim as county resident Frank Smith and says he missed a curve before the crash.

The department says that Smith may have been going too fast.
