Councilman Brown Tweets Lease Deal Can Still Get Done

DETROIT (WWJ) - The state has pulled the deal off the table, but could a lease for Belle Isle still be worked out?

Detroit City Councilman Gary Brown said Saturday morning on Twitter that he's still hopeful that conversations with the state can be revived and that a lease with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources can get done.

"I'm still hopeful that a lease with the Michigan DNR for #BelleIsle can get done. The DNR has the financial and resource capacity,"  tweeted Brown.

Although he admits there haven't been any new conversations with the state.

Brown believes talks can be revived. He says the DNR has the financial and resource capacity.

"Although we haven't yet had new conversations with the State, I believe we can revive #BelleIsle lease and continue negotiations. #Detroit."

City Council voted earlier this week to not vote on the lease proposal.
