NEW ORLEANS (97.1 THE TICKET) – Trey Wingo stopped by The Ticket to chat with Evan Jankens on Super Bowl Sunday and had some words of praise for Calvin Johnson and warning for Titus Young.
“Hey, it’s Calvin Johnson, I’m not just saying this because it’s 97.1 in Detroit but anytime you can break a record by Jerry Rice – that gives you the automatic advantage,” said Wingo. “He’s not only the best receiver to play the game according to NFL writers but he’s the best player in the history of the game.”
“If you can take Jerry Rice’s name out of the record book and put your name in you are by far the best receiver in the game right now,” said Wingo.
Will the Lions ever get to the Super Bowl Wingo was asked?
“Yes, I think they will, it was a step back this year – but they’ve got to realize that the way they handle themselves on and off the field matters. There was a little lack of discipline this year, starting in the off-season and moving forward. If they can get that under control – there is a lot of talent in Detroit.”
And what about Titus Young?
“Titus Young needs to understand that it’s not about him in any way shape or form – it’s about the team. There are plenty of Titus Young’s in the NFL, there are plenty of Titus Young’s in the world – meaning guys that don’t get it and don’t understand that talent alone doesn’t win you games.”
