SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Instead of the usual chocolate and roses this Valentine’s Day, how about a free divorce?
A Southfield attorney is offering just that this Valentine’s Day through a contest on his website.
Attorney Walter Bentley III says he is looking for compelling stories from people who are trying to get divorced but can’t really afford it.
“The idea came about when people come into my office on a regular basis who want to get a divorce and they’re struggling right now financially and they just don’t have the funds or means to do that. And so that’s why I decided to do it,” Bentley told WWJ Newsradio 950′s Zahra Huber.
But why choose Valentine’s Day for the contest?
“What makes Valentine’s Day even hard for some people that are in that situation that are in a bad marriage and you’re living with the person, and it makes Valentine’s Day a very, very tough day for people — when you’re living with someone you no longer want to be married to,” Bentley said.
The free divorce is limited to an uncontested divorce with no or minimal child custody issues.
One winner will be announced on Valentine’s Day.
