Weather Slowing Commute, Closing Roads All Over Town

DETROIT (WWJ) - Scattered road closures Saturday afternoon thanks to the winter weather. The biggest accidents we're looking at are along the northbound Southfield Freeway before Oakwood ... where one lane is now open but things are still a big mess.

Another accident near downtown Detroit at the Lodge Southbound before West Grand Blvd has the road shut down there and perhaps the biggest accident is down in Monroe County at I-75 northbound at Otter Creek Road where four semis and about 20 cars have collided. We'll have the full report in traffic at 3:28.

Cindy Dingell is Deputy Chief Operating Officer with Wayne County Department of Public Services. She says they called in about 30 trucks this morning to prepare for the winter weather.

"We have trucks out there within the system getting a layer of salt down and assessing as we go along and of course we're going to be watching for ice build up throughout the day - we just advise the public to slow down and to pad some extra time into your commute, "said Dingell. "Give the plows some extra room to do their job."

While in Dearborn a  power outage in affected about 2,000 DTE customers ... and it may be the result of slippery road conditions. An energy company spokesperson tells us a car hit a pole at Carlysle and Gully roads near Telegraph and Michigan Avenue.
