Immigration A Hot Top At The Free Legal Clinic Held Sunday

WARREN (WWJ) - The advice was free and the need was evident as a Warren law firm held a legal aid clinic to provide free legal assistance and consultation to the public on Sunday.

Attorney Amer Hakim said the clinic saw a good turnout in Shelby Twp. with with most people asking questions about immigration, bankruptcy, and family law.

"A lot of people are asking financial questions; 'I lost my house to foreclosure, I have a deficiency judgement against me - what happens now? Can they take money out of my bank account? Our family law attorney has had a long line. People ask questions about child support ...," said Hakim.

"Someone walked in and had an immigration question, which we're being bombarded with immigration questions," he said.

Hakim says the free aid is a way to thank people for their support over the years.

"Why don't we hold a legal clinic, where people don't have to worry about price - they don't have to worry about paying for good legal advice," said Hakim. "I thought it would be a good way to give back to the community."

Another clinic will be held by the Law Offices of Hakim, Daman, & Toma, P.C. March 17, 2013, from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm at Mother of God Chaldean Catholic Church in Southfield (25585 Berg Road, 48033).
