Owner And Pet Rescued From Water In Monroe County

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) – Monroe County authorities rescued a 54-year-old man who fell through thin ice while trying to save his dog from a pond.

Edward Jefferson, who put on a wetsuit, went into the partially frozen pond to rescue his dog Wynne. Jefferson fell through the ice and attempts to get both Jefferson and the dog out of the water by family were unsuccessful.

A call went in to 911 and the Monroe County Sheriff’s office and the Bedford Twp volunteer fire department responded to the home on Dogwood Lane.

Sheriff’s Deputy Tim George used an aluminum extension ladder to get the pair out of the water.

Jefferson and his dog were safely rescued. Jefferson had to be treated for minor injuries he suffered while in the water … from his dog.
