Woman Allegedly Bilked Out Of $7K In Meijer Parking Lot

SHELBY TWP. (CBS Detroit) A woman told police she was bizarrely bilked out of $7,000 by a stranger who approached her in the parking lot of Meijer, 15055 Hall Road.

It began at 1 p.m. Wednesday, when the elderly woman said she was approached by a woman who said she had found two bank bags in the lot. She asked the victim to stand by as a witness while she contacted the owner.

The suspect then spoke with a man on the phone that she identified as the owner of the bags, and told the victim  there was a large amount of money in the bags that the owner wished to give them a reward for finding.

But there was a catch: The suspect wanted them to pay $7,000 in taxes.

Police said the victim agreed and drove the suspect to her own bank, where she withdrew $7,000 and gave it to the suspect, who was to return with the reward.

But the suspect never returned.

Any information that may help in identifying this woman should be directed to the Shelby Twp. Police Department Detective Bureau at 586-731-2121, ext. 311.
