Get Tested For HIV For Free In Ferndale

FERNDALE (CBS Detroit) - Metro Detroit's Community Center for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is offering free HIV and STD testing.

Affirmations has teamed up with Oakland County Health Division, AIDS Partnership Michigan, and Michigan AIDS Coalition to offer the service daily, for both adults and youth at the center.  The testing is free, confidential, and anonymous and will be conducted by trained and certified staff members.

"Expanding free HIV and STD testing services with our strategic Health and Wellness partners is key to our desire to recommit the state's largest LGBT community center to efforts to ending the spread of HIV/AIDS among the most vulnerable in our community," said Johnny Jenkins, Affirmations' Director of Programs.

The HIV and syphilis testing will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.  Michigan AIDS Coalition will hold the testing and on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Fridays from 7:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m., they will offer youth specific HIV testing.

HIV testing for single people and couples will be held every Thursday from 5:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 1 p.m.- 2:30 p.m.  AIDS Partnership Michigan will regulate the testing and on the 1st Friday of every month, they will offer youth specific testing.

HIV and syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis testing will take place every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.  The Oakland County Health Division will conduct the testing.
