Ferndale Businesses: New Parking Stations Costing Us Customers

FERNDALE (WWJ) - It could get loud at the Ferndale City Council Monday night as frustrated residents and business owners sound off over the new parking system. Rose Sweed owns Step On Bus Tours in downtown Ferndale and says it's been costing her customers.

"It's a new pay system that people can't figure out how to use," said Sweed. "There are lines and then people get irate in the lines because the person in front of them don't understand how to pay for parking.

The police are helping people pay - the police have enough on their plate in Ferndale."

Karen Tardiff owns Blue Moon Tardiff Vintage and says confusion over how to use the stations has been costing her and many others business.

"The are three empty businesses on my block, everyone is waving their flag, just the place to be, Ferndale is happening," said Tardiff. "We've got a bustling downtown and it's like you can shoot a cannon through the town in the middle of Wednesday afternoon and not hit anybody."

The city abruptly replaced the old meters earlier this year as well as increasing rates.
