DETROIT (WWJ/97.1 The Ticket) - Get a chance to help fight hunger while rubbing elbows with your favorite Detroit Lions players during a Taste of the Lions on May 7.

The Detroit Lions will host the inaugural event at Ford Field Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

The strolling wine and food event features more than 20 of metro Detroit's top restaurants as local chefs prepare a signature dish from their restaurant for guests to sample and then suggest a pairing with wine.

The evening also includes live music and meet-and-greet opportunities with Detroit Lions players, coaches and alumni.

The night kicks off with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. and continues with general admission at 7:30 p.m.

VIP guests will enjoy a private cocktail reception, featuring Sugar House mixologists, in the Detroit Lions locker room and have early access to each of the chef stations.

VIP and general admission tickets will be available through Detroitlions.com and Ticketmaster.com beginning March 1 at 10 a.m.

Taste of the Lions extends the league's own Taste of the NFL program which began in 1992. The NFL's annual event, held the night before the Super Bowl in the hosting city, brings together the country's top chefs to raise funds for local food banks.
