Thieves Pose As Water Workers In Bloomfield Twp.

BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Bloomfield Township police are warning residents about a door-to-door scam.

Two people posing as water department employees went to a home and said they needed to check for rusty water. Once inside the house, one of the men distracted the homeowner while the other rummaged through valuables, taking what he could.

Officials at the  Department of Public Works say water workers don't knock on doors unless there is an immediate emergency, such as a water main break. If someone claims to be a township employee, residents are urged to look for a marked vehicle or uniform logo -- and always ask to see an ID.  Township workers will not seek to enter a home without an appointment.

Anyone who notices anything suspicious is asked to immediately contact Bloomfield Township Police.
