Local Man Raising Funds For Hip Nano-Brewery In Detroit

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) A local man is trying to raise funds for the first nanobrewery in metro Detroit. So, what exactly is nano, you ask? "Small, very small," says Stephen Roginson, who calls himself a digital panhandler, intent on raising money for a unique local institution.

Roginson has started an online campaign for Batch Brewing Company, saying if it garners enough funding, batches of brew as small as 10 gallons will be brewed up at the historic corner of Michigan and Trumbull.

He promises a unique "feel good" beer will be created every month, with $3 per pint going to charity.

Roginson said he also plans to feature Detroit artists on the wall, giving them 100 percent of the proceeds, bring in live, local music, and invite food trucks to set up shop in the parking lot.

It's like a hipster dream, but will it work? Roginson thinks so, reporting $9,306 has been raised so far of the $25,000 necessary. They hope to get the rest within the next 18 days.

"Supporting local artists, other local businesses, helping charity, creating jobs and tax revenue in the city of Detroit -- what's keeping you from contributing?" Roginson said in his online fundraising plea on indiegogo.com

"We promise to make really, really good beer," Roginson said.
