Detroit Mother Who Left Kids Home Alone Comes Forward
DETROIT (WWJ) - The mother of two young boys found outside their west side Detroit apartment in freezing cold weather overnight has come forward.
Srg. Eren Stephens said the 22-year-old mother came to the Child Abuse Unit just after 12 a.m. Tuesday regarding her two sons.
Stephens said police found the children, a 3-year-old and 13-month-old, about six hours earlier wandering outside their apartment complex on Rochester Street, near Dexter and West Chicago.
Officers say the boys were alone and the younger one had no coat or shoes on. It was about 20 degrees outside.
Stephens said until investigators can determine why the children were left to fend for themselves, the boys will remain in the care of a relative.
