YPSILANTI — College seniors, graduates and alumni of Michigan’s two-or four-year colleges will have a valuable opportunity to experience the Michigan Collegiate Job Fair, which brings together employers and prospective employees.
This popular bi-annual event, sponsored by Eastern Michigan University and supported by the Michigan Career Educator and Employer Alliance, is scheduled for Friday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Burton Manor, 27777 Schoolcraft Road at I-96 in Livonia.
An up-to-date list of participating employers can be found at the Michigan Collegiate Job Fair Web site, www.emich.edu/mcjf/index.php. Candidates are encouraged to pre-register online before March 15 for only $10. Walk-in registration is $15.
“There has been a significant increase in employer participation for this latest event, which shows signs that the job market is turning around,” said Ebony Jones, senior corporate relations manager at Eastern Michigan University. “Employers participating in this fair are looking to hire entry-level candidates with degrees in business, liberal arts, technology, engineering, human services and allied health.”
Jones says this is an excellent opportunity for graduating college seniors and recent alumni in the state of Michigan to network with more than 100 employers from various industries with active job openings.
Jones recommends candidates should dress for success; bring approximately 25 copies of their resume; and be prepared to discuss their skills.
Employers currently registered for this fair include IBM; Hewlett Packard; Quicken Loans; Computer & Engineering Services; Eby-Brown; AJM Packaging; Plastipak Packaging, Inc.; Target; Valassis; and various State of Michigan departments and agencies.
The Michigan Collegiate Job Fair is one of the largest and longest running job fair events. The most recent fair, held in November 2012, hosted 133 participating employers and more than 940 candidates.
