DETROIT (WWJ) - Investigators in Detroit are trying to figure out what led to a firebombing at a church on the city’s west side.

Police say the incident happened around 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Mission, also called PIME Missionaries, on West McNichols Road and Quincy Street, near the University of Detroit Mercy.

Detroit fire officials are calling the incident a firebombing, but have not described how it happened. Arson investigators were called to the scene.

Investigators say there was minimal damage to the building. No injuries were reported.

When contacted by WWJ Newsradio 950, church officials said they had “no comment.”

An investigation is ongoing.
