Hazmat Team Called To Crash Scene To Test Radioactive Material

COMMERCE TWP. (WWJ) – A scare for Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies as they’re called to a crash scene that included a vehicle carrying radioactive material.

The accident happened just before 7:45 a.m. Tuesday on South Commerce Road near Oakley Park in Commerce Township. Investigators say one of the vehicles involved in the crash was transporting radioactive material to a nearby lab.

Fearing one or more of the containers had been breached during the crash, the West Oakland Hazmat Team was requested to assist at the scene. The Hazmat Team conducted tests and the scene was determined to be safe.

Police say the driver, whose identity was not released, was cited for careless driving.
