PLYMOUTH — Comcast said Thursday it’s doubling the speeds of its most popular Xfinity Internet service plans, Blast and Extreme 50, in Michigan at no additional cost.

Also, in April, Comcast will increase the speed of its Performance plan by more than 60 percent.

The Blast plan is increasing download speeds from up to 25 megabits per second to speeds up to 50 mpbs. On the upload side, speeds will rise from up to 4 mbps to up to 10 mbps.

Extreme 50 customers will receive download speeds of up to 105 mbps, up from up to 50 mbps. Upload speeds will rise to up to 20 mbps from up to 15 mbps.

The Performance plan will increase speeds on the download side up to 25 mbps from up to 15 mbps. Uploads will rise in speed to up to 5 mbps from up to 2 mbps.

To activate the new speeds, customer only need to restart their cable modems.

For the third year in a row, Federal Communications Commission testing has shown that Comcast delivers speeds to customers that are even faster than the advertised speeds.
