Strategic Staffing Sets annual events: Detroit-based Strategic Staffing Solutions has set the dates for its two major charity events of 2013. The Grand Prix Shakedown 20th annual 5-kilometer run and walk will take place Tuesday, May 28 at 6:15 p.m. at Belle Isle Park in Detroit. The Detroit Charity Golf Outing will be held Sunday, Aug. 11 at 12:15 p.m. at the Inn At St. John's Golf and Conference Center in Plymouth. Turnaround specialist speaks at LTU March 21: Entrepreneur and corporate turnaround specialist Cary Wood will present a corporate case study on Thursday, March 21, at 12:15 p.m. at Lawrence Technological University, 21000 W. 10 Mile Road, Southfield. The Blue Devil Entrepreneurial Venture Series program begins with a reception at 11:45 a.m. in the lobby of the Mary E. Marburger Science and Engineering Auditorium in LTU's Science Building. Wood, who earned a master's degree in industrial operations from LTU in 1996, is president and CEO of Sparton Corp. of Schaumburg, IL, which sells  electromechanical devices. Wood took over the 109-year-old manufacturing company that was just months away from bankruptcy, made it profitable in 90 days, and has successfully diversified its product line. The company's stock has risen  from $1.41 per share to over $14 per share. He will lead a case study that demonstrates his executive team approach that instills an entrepreneurial spirit in an organization. He has repeatedly demonstrated success in performance turnarounds and growth strategies for both public and private entities.

DRC-USGBC Announces Second Annual Recognition Banquet: Tickets are now available for the second annual Recognition Banquet honoring significant contributions to green building and sustainability in South East Michigan by the Detroit Regional Chapter of the US Green Building Council. Biotechnology Business Consultants Offers SBIR-STTR 101 at Macomb-OU INCubator: Ann Arbor-based Biotechnology Business Consultants will host its "SBIR/STTR 101: Overview and Introduction" session Tuesday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by optional one-on-one meetings, at the Macomb-OU INCubator at Velocity, 6633 18 Mile Road in Sterling Heights. This half-day class helps small, technology entrepreneurs and businesses assess their eligibility to receive R&D funding through the government's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Through these programs, 11 federal agencies make over $2 billion in high-risk, non-dilutive capital available to innovative small companies annually. Attendees will learn SBIR/STTR program basics, including: program purpose,  eligibility, sources of funding and tools for proposal development.
