The newest Detroit Lion Reggie Bush didn’t know during his news conference yesterday what number he would wear. The Lions announced today through their Twitter that Bush will wear 21.
The running back wore 22 last year for the Dolphins, but this was not an option for the new Lion because it is Bobby Layne’s retired number. When Bush was with the New Orleans Saints, he wore 25 which is currently worn by Lions RB Mikel Leshoure.
Another option for Bush could have stemmed back to his college days at USC when he wore 5. According to Profootballtalk.com, when Bush turned pro he wanted his college number 5, but the league has a rule saying that RB’s can only wear numbers 20-49. The request was denied.
