Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) – It’s the weekend again, which means its time for some road work and intermittent lane closures in metro Detroit.

The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.


In Detroit, ongoing bridge work will have two lanes closed on westbound I-94 from Van Dyke Avenue to Mt. Elliott beginning at 9 p.m. tonight and ending by 5 a.m. Friday.

In Detroit, eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed at Van Dyke Avenue (M-53) beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and ending by 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic will be detoured to the Van Dyke exit and entrance ramps in each direction. Through traffic is asked to utilize I-75 and I-696 for each direction.

In Detroit/Wayne County, westbound I-94 will have a single lane closure from 8 Mile to Cadieux roads from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday for lighting and sign work.


In Wayne County, lighting maintenance will require intermittent exit and entrance ramp closures on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Northbound I-75 exit to Livernois Avenue
  • Southbound I-75 exit to Springwells Avenue
  • Southbound I-75 entrance ramp from McNichols
  • Southbound I-75 entrance ramp from 8 Mile Road

I-94/I-75 Interchange:

In Wayne County, the westbound I-94 ramp to northbound I-75 will be closed on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for lighting maintenance.

Beginning the week of Monday, March 25:

M-97 (Groesbeck Highway):

In Macomb County, northbound and southbound Groesbeck Highway will have single lane closures between 14 Mile and Utica roads daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for water main repair until late April.

Dixie Highway:

In Oakland County, sewer work will have a single lane closed on southbound Dixie Highway from Williams Lake Road to M-15 beginning Monday at 9 a.m. and ending by Friday at 9 p.m.
