Woman Killed In Police Chase Crash

MONROE (WWJ) - A woman was killed and several other people injured in a crash following a high-speed police chase.

Monroe police were in pursuit of a vehicle, Tuesday afternoon, when that vehicle reportedly ran a red light hit an oncoming car on South Monroe St. at Jones Ave.

According to police, the suspect vehicle has been travelling  "at an excessively high rate of speed" along W. Front St.  and driving recklessly as it passed numerous vehicles and pedestrians.  Police said the chase began when the driver refused to stop for officers and continued speeding down in an erratic manner through the city.

Police said, along with one fatality, there were multiple injuries.

The suspect, who was also hurt in the crash, was taken into custody.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the suspect of the victim as an investigation continues.
