DETROIT (WWJ) – The public is welcome to take advantage of a Good Friday gas discount at a service station on Detroit’s east side.
Impact Church is sponsoring what’s being called a “Gas Buy-Down” at the Wow Marathon on Mack Ave.
For this special event, prices by 25¢ a-gallon exclusively at that location. On top of that, Impact Church members will be there pumping gas and cleaning windshields for the community.
Pastor Keenann Knox said they’re sponsoring the event because they know so many people are feeling the economic pinch.
“A lot of churches go a Good Friday service, and I do believe we should be doing good service on Friday to really show the sacrifice that Jesus made for us,” Knox told WWJ Newsradio 950. “His life was about helping the poor, the down and out, and those who are struggling — and the church’s call is to do the exact same thing.”
“We’re trying to do it even bigger and better than we did last time,” Knox said. “We had such a turnout. We had hundreds of cars show up that day; we were able to give a blessing to people.”
The discount will apply to fuel delivered into the fuel tank of functioning vehicles only — no gas cans.
The event began at 11 a.m. Knox said the discount would continue to apply on Friday until 8,000 gallons were pumped.
The Wow Marathon Gas Station located at 14845 Mack Avenue, Detroit, MI 48125, between Mack and Alter Rd.
