BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - A Bloomfield Township man who rode his lawn mower to the drug store is now facing a felony drunk driving charge.

Roy Walton, 47, was released on a $25,000 personal bond after being charged with felony operating while intoxicated in what police are calling an unusual case of drinking and driving.

Police were on routine patrol in around 9:50 p.m. last Friday when they noticed a riding lawn mower parked on the sidewalk in front of the Rite Aid on Woodward Avenue, near Square Lake Road.

Curious as to why the lawn mower was there, police stuck around and watched as Walton left the store, hopped on the mower and started to drive away down the sidewalk.

Police stopped Walton, determined that he was intoxicated and placed him under arrest. The riding lawn mower was impounded.

Investigators say Walton was charged with a felony offense because of his prior convictions for operating while intoxicated.
