App of the Week: Money Smart Week Scavenger Hunt

DETROIT -- The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Detroit Branch has scheduled its Money Smart Week for April 20-27.

All across southeast Michigan, there will be more than 130 events to help people get smarter with their money from saving tips for kids through college financing for high schoolers and their parents to retirement and long-term care planning.

And of course, there are games and apps.

Part of Money Smart Week is Scavenger Hunt with Friends, a photo app now available at the Apple App Store and the Android market.

The 2013 Money Smart Week Scavenger Hunt is a free, nationwide, photojournalistic, scavenger hunt that uses the Scavenger Hunt with Friends mobile application.

Participants are encouraged to take pictures of a bunch of places and things that will help them be smarter with their money -- pictures of a home-cooked meal instead of a restaurant-bought one, for instance, or a picture of a participant replacing an incandescent light bulb with a high-efficiency CFL -- or, for the most points, a picture of a participant attending a Money Smart Week class.

Three grand prize winners will each receive a $600 Apple gift card, Five second price winners will receive a $100 Visa gift card. Five third prize winners will receive a $50 Visa gift card.

Winners will be chosen on the number of points accumulated and the creativity of their photos.
