DETROIT — The Covisint business unit of Detroit-based Compuware Corp. (Nasdaq: CPWR) this week introduced a new and enhanced supplier portal that the company says dramatically improves simplicity, usability, mobile accessibility and time-to-value.

Additionally, through its Akamai NetAlliance Partnership, Covisint’s Cloud Engagement Platform will feature improved response times for multi-page transactions globally.

Compuware says the deal gives Covisint more than 125,000 global points of presence and a content delivery network partner with the best way of delivering content to the user regardless of device or browser.

Akamai’s system puts more content closer to the end-user and makes sure that the content and user are connected by the most efficient route on the Web. That creates significant site performance improvements. Covisint also benefits from reduced server load and bandwidth consumption.

Covisint said the Akamai system also offers significant protection more resistant to denial-of-service attacks, in which hackers bombard an application with repeated robotic requests for data, which can overload a system.

Connecting more than 80,000 organizations and eight of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers, Covisint’s supplier portal is the world’s leading cloud-based platform for improved supply chain collaboration.

The Covisint supplier portal requires only a single identity to access critical OEM content, information and applications while also seamlessly integrating disparate software systems.

Specific improvements in the new Covisint platform include dynamic mobile device detection, enhanced content and document management, and more robust and user-friendly search functionality.

“Covisint has been the leading provider of supply chain connectivity solutions since the company’s inception, and these improvements result in a highly collaborative and engaging user experience for OEMs and their global supply chain partners,” said David McGuffie, Covisint CEO. “Our Akamai partnership drives the speed of information delivery and value, enabling Covisint customers to deliver deep and quantifiable performance improvements. We will continue to expand our partnership with Akamai to deliver value to our mutual customers.”

Added Akamai senior vice president of global channels Brad Rinklin: “This partnership brings together Covisint’s leading secure cloud platform and portal framework with Akamai’s industry-proven web security and performance advantages. Combining secure access and industry-leading web optimization has the potential to redefine successful cloud engagement for an entire industry.”

Covisint’s products and services enable organizations to connect, engage, and collaborate with the critical external audiences that define their success — including customers, business partners and suppliers. Covisint allows its clients to establish a secure, reliable, integrated presence in the cloud, and it provides the kind of engaging information experiences that people everywhere have come to expect.
