Missing Man Found Dead In Westland Marsh

WESTLAND (WWJ) - A body pulled from a marshy area in Westland is believed to be that of a missing Canton Township man.

Kathy Gomoll, a long-time friend of Matt Morris, told WWJ Newsradio 950 that authorities confirmed his identity on Tuesday.

Morris had been missing since mid-January -- and his body was found just blocks away from where his vehicle was abandoned.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time, and Gomoll believes his disappearance had to something with his diabetes medication.

"When he left the theater [he] just got disoriented, and her walked away from his car," Morris said.  "Because there's been a few times with the medications, he'd been disoriented and not really realizing where he was at -- that kind of thing, where he might've forgotten that he took like his meds in the morning and took them again to the point where he was pretty doped up sometimes."

Gomoll said -- even though the news is heart-wrenching -- there's a weight off her shoulders.

"That's the biggest part of not knowing what happened to somebody. I mean we didn't have any kind of clue, even no one seeing him walking in a direction," she said. "We had nothing at all to go on."

An autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death.
