Troy Police Search For 2 Drivers Who Fled Scene Of Fatal Accident

TROY (WWJ) - Troy police are looking for two drivers who may be connected to a deadly accident.

Investigators say the drivers wanted for questioning were involved in an accident around 4:10 p.m. Monday on Rochester Road, just south of Long Lake.

According to police, a gold Chevrolet Malibu exited a private drive on the west side of Rochester Road and was involved in a minor accident with an unidentified silver SUV.

While that accident was occurring, police say a silver Toyota Scion travelling southbound on Rochester Road attempted to avoid the accident scene and swerved across the center line into the oncoming northbound lanes. In the process, the Toyota sideswiped a blue Buick and then struck a Saturn head on. The Buick then veered left into a Ford Taurus, which was travelling southbound on Rochester Road.

The driver of the Toyota, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to Troy Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Buick was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It wasn't immediately clear if alcohol or drugs were factors in the accidents.

Police say the drivers of the original accident -- the Malibu and the silver SUV -- then left the scene without identifying themselves, and were last seen traveling northbound on Rochester Road from Long Lake Road. Investigators are now looking for those drivers.

Anyone with information on the accident or the drivers is asked to contact Troy police at 248-524-3477, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
