MEDA Offers “Inside The Economic Development Toolbox”: You are invited to attend the 2013 Inside the Economic Development Toolbox program, which will be held Thursday, May 30 at the Lexington Hotel in Lansing. For registration or more information, contact the MEDA staff at meda@medaweb.org or (517) 241-0011. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The program begins at 9 a.m. and adjournment is scheduled for 3:40 p.m. The hotel is at 925 S. Creyts Road in Lansing. There are a limited number of rooms at the Lexington for $99 a night. Reserve by May 10 by calling the reservations department at (877) 322-5544. Be sure to identify yourself as an attendee of MEDA’s conference. The event cost is $90 for MEDA members and $160 for others. The member rate is also available to members of our co-sponsoring organization, the International Council of Shopping Centers. The opening keynote will be presented at 9 by Amy Cell, senior vice president of talent enhancement at the Michigan Economic Development Corp., on “MEDC Talent Data Findings and Governor’s Conference Action Items.” Following will be concurrent sessions on the Develop Michigan finance program, using data to promote economic development, the Pure Michigan Talent Connect program, access to capital for early stage companies, community marketing for economic developers, the LiveWorkDetroit and Michigan Advanced Technician Training programs, brownfield redevelopment programs, using the new state site search system, developing local economic and workforce development partnerships, MSHDA programs and place-based economic development, successful negotiation techniques, the community development block grant small cities program, techniques for measuring return on investment, and more.

Jeep Sets Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Vehicle Event During SAE: Jeep will show off its 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee clean diesel on Wednesday, April 17 at Cobo Center in Detroit during SAE 2013 World Congress. Speakers will include Ben Winter, vice president of vehicle engineering, Jim Morrison, director of Jeep brand product marketing, Ray Durham, vehicle line executive for SUVs, Lary Nowak, diesel engines platform manager, and Mircea Gardu, vice president of powertrain, transmission and driveline engineering and head of virtual analysis, all of Chrysler Group LLC. Gardu is also SAE 2013 World Congress General Chair. Registration will close Monday, April 15 at 5:00 p.m. There will be no onsite ticket sales. No refunds will be issued after April 10.
