Police: Alarm Scares Off Jewelry Thief

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – Police say a man who broke into a high-end jewelry store in Southfield was apparently scared off by a security alarm.

The incident happened around 12:40 a.m. March 26, when police received report of an alarm activation at Darakjian Jewelers on Northwestern Highway, near 12 Mile Road.

Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a rear window broken out with a wooden ladder leading up to the window, but no sign of the suspect.

Investigators reviewed footage from the store’s security cameras and watched as the suspect entered the store before leaving abruptly. Nothing was reported stolen.

The suspect is described as approximately six-feet tall with a thin build. Police say the suspect was covering his face and was wearing what appeared to be a light gray hooded sweatshirt and light-colored pants.

Anyone who may have information on this incident is asked to contact Southfield police at 248-796-5500.
