CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - SUNDAY 2 P.M.:  Suspect, Jonathan Elbers, has been captured by police - found in a wooded area near freeway. (READ THE LATEST HERE).

The 23-year-old man from Reese, Michigan who is wanted for attempting to kill his girlfriend in her Chesterfield Township home , Jonathan Elbers, is still on the run according to Police Sergeant Bradley Kersten.

"It is our strong belief that he is still in the area - he is either finding locations to bed down through the night or staying in the, the wooded areas of the rural setting," Kersten said.

Several local law enforcement agencies are looking for him. "We are, again, receiving reports from citizens who report suspicious people - we are responding to him and hopefully that will continue until we take him into custody," he said.

Elbers is around 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 155 pounds. He was wearing a dark, long-sleeve  T-shirt, cargo-style jeans and work boots.   His hair is  described as longer and "shaggy" as compared to the photo above.  He will likely have a noticeable head wound.

Kersten says Elbers allegedly tried to kill his girlfriend in her Chesterfield Twp. home early Friday and is also accused of home invasion, and assaulting a police officer.

Police said they were called to the woman's home by her parents, who were in Florida at the time, and concerned about their daughter's welfare.

When they arrived at the home, police say they heard the 20-year-old victim yelling for help from the basement, and saw the suspect,  bleeding heavily from a head wound.

Police said Elbers should be considered extremely dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chesterfield Township police at 586-949-2322  or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
