Man Tied Up During Home Invasion In Shelby Township

SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - A Shelby Township man was taken to the hospital after being tied up by robbers who broke into his home.

Lt. Tom Kohl said the home invasion took place around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on Shelby Creek Drive, near 22 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

According to police, three men wearing ski masks overpowered the victim and restrained him using duct tape and zip ties before ransacking the home.

The suspects fled the scene. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was reported in stable condition late Wednesday morning.

Other family members who were home during the break-in were uninjured, according to reports.

Kohl said their preliminary investigation indicates the home invasion and assault was specific to the residence, and was not random. He said the community should rest assured that there are no personal threats to homeowners, since they believe this is an isolated incident.

The suspects remain at large.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Shelby Township police at 586-731-2121.
