We’re but toenail-deep into the 2013 season, so let’s cast forward and rank players according to how they figure to stack up this year in terms of overall value. In other words, we’re concerned only with 2013. How a particular player projects outward to 2014, 2015 or even 2020 isn’t a concern. We’re all about the season before us and only the season before us.

Is this a ranking of MVP/Cy Young candidates? Nope. I have no use for alternative definitions that suggest the phrase “most valuable” means anything other than “best.” So the operative word is “best.”

Spoiler alert!
