Car Slams Into Southfield Bus Stop
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - One person was hurt when an elderly man crashed his car into a SMART bus stop.
It happened Friday afternoon near Greenfield and 12 Mile on the Southfield/Berkley border
Police told WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis that the driver, a man in his 90s, was backing out of a parking lot when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the bus stop shelter.
One person who'd been waiting for the bus was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver and his passenger were not hurt.
Debra Hassens had just walked up to the stop as the crash site was cleared. "Normally it's very safe but, obviously ... this is terrible," she said.
Police said it appears the man's foot slipped and pressed on the gas. The accident remains under investigation.
