Stranger Danger: Man Tries To Snatch Girl In Eastpointe

EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - Police are investigating an attempted child abduction in Eastpointe just blocks away from where another girl was nearly kidnapped by a man on her walk home from school.

Investigators say a 13-year-old girl was walking home from Kelly Middle School around 2:30 p.m. Friday when she realized she was being followed by a man driving an older Ford Taurus.

The girl was walking near Universal and Ego avenues, just north of 8 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue, when the man reportedly got out of his vehicle and started to walk behind her, according to police.

The girl told police she started to run away, but the man began to chase her. A short time later, however, the girl said the man stopped running, went back to his vehicle and drove away.

The man is described as in his 30's, about six-feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black skull-cap and a black leather coat. Police say the man's car was described as being red and rusty.

It's the second attempted abduction reported near Kelly Middle School in recent weeks. In the earlier incident, a 13-year-old girl was walking near 9 Mile and Kelly roads around 3:50 p.m. March 25 when police say a man grabbed her around the waist, covered her mouth and threw her in the back seat of his car.

The girl told police she was able to jump out of the car when it slowed down in the area of Stephens Road and Gratiot Avenue. The girl ran to a nearby house, where someone called police, and the suspect drove away. The suspect in this case is described as a black male in his 20′s, driving a gray four-door vehicle with a black leather interior.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Eastpointe police at 586-445-5100.
