'42' Sets Baseball Movie Record For Opening Weekend
As most of us know by now, 42 -- a.k.a. the Jackie Robinson movie -- hit theaters nationwide Friday.
And it was a raging success, banking $27.2 million, winning the weekend at the box office in blowout fashion (Scary Movie 5 was second at $15.1 million). As noted by indiewire.com, 42 is now the record-holder for the biggest opening weekend among baseball movies.
Embarrassingly so, the record was previously held by The Benchwarmers. Seriously. That movie with David Spade, Rob Schneider and the dude who played Napolean Dynamite (yeah, I know his real name -- I just don't care) was the record-holder.
