The Detroit Red Wings earned two points they desperately needed at Nashville, putting them in eighth place in the Western Conference standings.

The streaking Dallas Stars, Columbus and Phoenix are all right behind Detroit.

The 48-game, lockout-shortened sprint of a season is nearing a fantastic finish with only one team in each conference eliminated as of Monday morning.

In the Eastern Conference, the New York Islanders and New York Rangers are trying to hold on to the last two postseason spots. Winnipeg and Buffalo could potentially spoil their plans.

The regular season ends April 27 and the playoffs begin April 30.
