Detroit Bar Owner Gets Shot At Fame In Ryan Gosling Film

DETROIT (WWJ) - There have been sightings of actor Ryan Gosling all over metro Detroit as he prepares to film "How to Catch a Monster" here in the area.

Gosling is no stranger to Cafe D'Mongo in Detroit -- where the actor is known to frequent -- but owner Larry Mongo says Gosling's last visit was a little different.

The star personally asked Mongo to be a part of his movie, which begins shooting next month.

"He said, 'You ever acted before?' I said, 'Yes, every time the police question me, I act.' And he started laughing. He said, 'You want to be in a movie?' So I laughed and said, 'You are B-S'ing me.' And he said 'no.' And the guy who was with him took my phone number," Mongo told WWJ's Zahra Huber.

Mongo said he got a call from the casting company about four days later to talk about his role.

But, before Gosling's first visit to the bar about a year ago, Mongo had never heard of him.

"I watch gangster movies. [Robert] De Niro, Joe Pesci, I don't know Ryan Gosling. So I actually walked back and I said, 'Sir, excuse me. Are you some type of movie star or something?' And he laughed. I said, 'What is your name? Is it Ryan Gosling?'" said Mongo.

The bar owner said Gosling then got up and introduced himself to people at the bar, took pictures, and even did shots with some customers.

Mongo could not say what exactly his role will be in "How to Catch a Monster," but said  he's excited to be a part of it.
