Kid Rock Takes On Jay-Z, Timberlake, Calls High-Priced Concerts 'Garbage'

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Never one to shy away from controversy, Detroit's own Kid Rock took on the music establishment this week, calling Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake concerts "highway robbery."

Appearing on the Piers Morgan show, Kid Rock -- who recently added his sixth $20 show in metro Detroit -- called out his Hollywood friends.

"It's gotten out of hand, the price of concerts, the price of entertainment period," Kid Rock said. "You know, whether it's a sporting event, going to the movies, buying a soda there, whatever. What do I do? I'm a musician, obviously I play concerts."

He added the low-cost concerts are part of his efforts to hold his head high and know he's not taking advantage of "a working man." He said he worked with concert promoters to keep the cost low and offered to take a pay cut to keep prices reasonable.

Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, on the other hand are charging up to $200 per seat.

"It's garbage, it's garbage, it's highway robbery," Kid Rock said of the high-priced concerts. "I don't care who you are, I would consider those guys in my circle of friends in the business, but I don't agree with it."

Kid Rock's concerts will also feature $20 T-shirts, $4 beer, free coffee and free Jimmy John's subs at some shows.

"I'm just trying to go above and beyond ... crossing my fingers that it works," Kid Rock said.
