Detroit Neighborhood Evacuated After Grenade Found In Field
DETROIT (WWJ) - A southwest Detroit neighborhood was evacuated Wednesday night after someone found a hand grenade in a field.
Police responded to a 911 call after the discovery was made in the area of Gilbert and John Kronk streets, just west of Livernois Avenue.
While residents say several hand grenades were found, Sgt. Alan Quinn said the bomb squad recovered one possible hand grenade.
Quinn said crews acted as if the grenade was live. As a precaution, neighboring residents were evacuated from their homes while the Detroit Police Bomb Squad worked to safely remove the grenade.
It wasn't immediately clear how the grenade ended up in the field.
No injuries were reported. An investigation is ongoing.
