Biden Says Response To Tragedies 'Incredible'

DETROIT (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden says the way people have reacted to the Boston Marathon bombings and Texas fertilizer plant explosion has been incredible.

Biden told Michigan Democrats at a dinner Saturday night that a debt of gratitude is owed to authorities and regular citizens for their "resilience, heroism, commitment and love." He says the reaction shows good can result from pain and carnage.

The vice president says this week's jarring defeat on gun-control legislation in the Senate shows that Democrats must do better in the 2014 midterm elections because senators say they didn't want to vote for the measure because they knew it wouldn't pass the Republican-led House.

Biden spoke in Detroit at the state Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson fundraiser. He has not ruled out a presidential run in 2016.
