Security In Place Before V.P. Biden Keynote In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Vice President Joe Biden is headlining a fundraiser for Michigan Democrats Saturday night.

WWJ's Kathryn Larson reports on security at the annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner but before the event takes place - a multi agency team will sweep the halls to ensure the building is safe and secure.

Cobo Secure (3)Delegate Ray Plowden said he's seen the drug sniffing dogs run up and down the corridors and escalators looking for possible threats. He also watched the Detroit police bomb squad stations being set up right outside the building.

"I feel very safe - very secure here. I think the Detroit police, the Secret Service  everybody involved in this is taking it very seriously and they're going to make sure everyone comes in feeling comfortable and doing the things we have to do," said Plowden.

Plowden said this is the same procedure that was used when President Obama paid a visit.

It's expected that Biden will touch on the Boston Marathon bombings, gun control and getting individuals more active in local politics.
