Thousands Line Up For 500 Jobs Available At Quicken Loans

DETROIT (WWJ) - The 'help wanted' sign is up at Quicken Loans-- which is looking to recruit about 500 people.

Four times that number of job seekers showed up for a job fair at the Chase Building in Detroit Saturday afternoon. A "good crowd of applicants," according to Quicken recruitment director Michelle Salvatore.

"We have some potential candidates that we could be hiring very soon - we've got probably about 2,000 people through the doors here today - so that has been a great turnout," Salvatore told WWJ's Kathryn Larson.

Many applicants were optimistic they nailed the interview and got the job.

Among those applying for the approximate 500 open positions was Shalanda Mitchell of Detroit - she was applying for recruiting or customer service.

"In the fact that they are growing so much, I mean they are growing exponentially, so hopefully with a minimum of 500 positions and their employment rate -- that does increase my chances," said Mitchell.

She currently tutors students in math and science but said she was looking for something new - and feels that Quicken Loans would be the right fit.

Mitchell said that she can always tutor students on the side, but right now she'd really like full-time work.

Quicken representatives said that many of the current applicants already have jobs but hope to make their career inside the company.
