Man Killed In Kent County Fire

LOWELL TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - A 58-year-old man was found dead following a weekend house fire in west Michigan.

The fire was reported about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Grindle Ave. in Kent County's Lowell Township, about 15 miles east of Grand Rapids.

The Grand Rapids Press reported the man was identified as Richard Eugene Owens Sr., and authorities say he called 911 to report the fire before he died.

Police say the connection was lost shortly after the call was made.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, smoke was pouring from eaves. The house was dark and filled with smoke.

An autopsy is pending.

The state fire marshal is investigating.
