Smoke Seen For Miles As Field Fire Blackens Sky

CLAY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) – Firefighters in St. Clair County battled a fire in a field in Clay Township that had motorists seeing smoke for miles.

WWJ Tipster Carolyn Gallo of Richmond could see the black clouds from Macomb County.

“I could see it from the lakeside area – which is where I was coming from … Lakeside Mall area, and now I’m in New Haven, heading back up toward Richmond and it seems like they are intensifying a bit …they’ll get darker,” said Gallo of the smoke.

She said she didn’t see flames but did see thick black clouds of smoke … and then a second black cloud rising from in the area.

The St. Clair County Sheriff reported another brush fire near Kimball Township as well on Monday afternoon.
