Body Found In Detroit Sewer

DETROIT (WWJ) - The body of a 55-year-old Detroit man has been found inside a sewer on the city's east side. Police believe the ventured below ground in search of materials to later sell illegally as scrap.

Police said the man's girlfriend was with him when he entered a manhole, on East Grand Boulevard near Chene Street, Wednesday afternoon.

She called police when he didn't come up from the manhole.

Public works employees and police officers found the body and were working to extract it later in the day.

An autopsy is planned as the man's death remains under investigation. His name has not been released.
