Comcast Ushers In Day Of Volunteering To Give Back To Community

DETROIT (WWJ) - Saturday, employees at Comcast cable are giving back to the community. They're joining other volunteers from around metro Detroit, to help out with a number of charitable events.

As part of Comcast Cares Week, the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer effort, Comcast Cares Day includes food packaging at Harvest Food Bank and cleaning up with Motor City Blight Busters.

Lisa Birmingham, vice president of government and community affairs for Comcast spoke with WWJ's Chrystal Knight about the event and the charities they will be helping:

"Our three call centers in Ann Arbor, Plymouth and Sterling Heights were packing foods to benefit Kids Against Hunger and our goal is 36,000 servings," she said. "And that's going to be donated to Food Gatherers Food Bank in Ann Arbor, Gleaners of Macomb County and Plymouth United Way."

"The message behind an event like this is that we can make change happen by packing food, cleaning community parks, recycling waste, working side by side with our employees and our community partners, our family and our friends - it's up to all of us," said Birmingham.
