Citizen Tips Lead To Arrest In Detroit Motel Murder

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are thanking the public for helping them catch an accused murderer.

After receiving several tips from citizens, police say a 27-year-old man was arrested Friday morning in Highland Park in connection with a fatal shooting at a Detroit motel.

Police say a 21-year old woman was found shot to death around 10 a.m. last Friday inside her room at the Corktown Inn -- a 120-room motel on Trumbull about seven block south of old Tigers Stadium. Relatives identified the woman as Ninoshka Nieves-Figueroa and said she was the mother of two young children.

Following the discovery of her body, police released a photograph of a man who was looking for the woman's room before she was killed. Minutes after the shooting, that same man was observed fleeing from the motel, according to police.

Police say an investigation report will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for review.

Investigators believe the suspect may have been targeting women he met online. According to reports, police are working a theory that the suspect trolled certain websites' escort sections and set-up women to meet and then rob.

Anyone with information on any other women who may have been targeted should contact Detroit police at 313-596-2260, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You can also submit a tip online at www.1800speakup.org, or text "CSM" and your tip to CRIMES (274637).
