It's 'Miggy's Salsa' Just In Time For Cinco de Mayo

LIVONIA (WWJ) - Justin Verlander has Fastball Flakes. Miguel Cabrera has Miggy's Salsa.

The Detroit Tigers star and Triple Crown winner introduced his own line of salsa Monday at the Meijer store in Livonia. Cabrera said it's a great opportunity.

"I think it's going to be great," said Cabrera. "When we got the opportunity to do this .... and we thank them for that - we appreciate it because they give us the opportunity to get close to the fan(s) at this event ... that's great. It's awesome."

Amy Davis of Allen Park says Cabrera is a salsa sensation.

"I like medium and I'm going to buy a hot one too," said Davis. Who came to see 'Miggy' and test out the new salsa.

Cabrera admits to being partial to the mild variety of his salsa brand.

"Mild," said Cabrera. "I don't like too spicy."

Third grader Calab Coley took a mental health day from school to see his idol.

"It was a dream for me because I got all the autographs and Miggy - he's my favorite player," he said.

Cabrera is donating a portion of his proceeds from the salsa to his newly created Miguel Cabrera Foundation which helps set up youth programs in the United States and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

"The guys that work with me , I say that's a very good idea - to promote ... to bring money to ... help the kids," Cabrera said.
